Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications , Tobacco and Aerospace & Defense sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.34%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON: FLTRF ), which rose 3.44% or 585.00 points to trade at 17,605.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Bunzl PLC (LON: BNZL ) added 3.20% or 94.00 points to end at 3,034.00 and WPP PLC (LON: WPP ) was up 3.00% or 16.80 points to 577.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ), which fell 3.03% or 23.60 points to trade at 755.80 at the close. Vodafone Group PLC (LON: VOD ) declined 2.52% or 1.82 points to end at 70.38 and GSK plc (LON: GSK ) was down 2.42% or 35.50 points to 1,433.50.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 999 to 768 and 602 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.77% or 24.31 to $3,170.31 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.44% or 0.31 to hit $71.51 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.27% or 0.20 to trade at $74.69 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.43% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.01% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.50% at 103.43.
