Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Utilities and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 4.78% to hit a new 52-week low, while the SBF 120 index declined 4.67%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were STMicroelectronics NV (EPA: STMPA ), which fell 0.86% or 0.15 points to trade at 16.88 at the close. Meanwhile, Schneider Electric SE (EPA: SCHN ) fell 1.55% or 2.94 points to end at 186.56 and Legrand SA (EPA: LEGD ) was down 1.57% or 1.40 points to 87.98 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Veolia Environnement VE SA (EPA: VIE ), which fell 8.12% or 2.50 points to trade at 28.27 at the close. Safran SA (EPA: SAF ) declined 7.79% or 17.00 points to end at 201.30 and Air Liquide SA (EPA: AIRP ) was down 7.27% or 12.60 points to 160.60.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Eutelsat Communications SA (EPA: ETL ) which rose 7.70% to 3.99, Valneva (EPA: VLS ) which was up 6.89% to settle at 2.79 and Voltalia SA (EPA: VLTSA ) which gained 3.45% to close at 6.35.

The worst performers were Veolia Environnement VE SA (EPA: VIE ) which was down 8.12% to 28.27 in late trade, Atos SE (EPA: ATOS ) which unchanged 7.89% to settle at 0.00 and Ubisoft Entertainment (EPA: UBIP ) which was down 7.83% to 8.80 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 445 to 95 and 48 ended unchanged.

Shares in STMicroelectronics NV (EPA: STMPA ) fell to 5-year lows; down 0.86% or 0.15 to 16.88. Shares in Schneider Electric SE (EPA: SCHN ) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.55% or 2.94 to 186.56. Shares in Legrand SA (EPA: LEGD ) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.57% or 1.40 to 87.98. Shares in Ubisoft Entertainment (EPA: UBIP ) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.83% or 0.75 to 8.80.

The CAC 40 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.29% or 39.15 to $2,996.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.16% or 1.34 to hit $60.65 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.12% or 1.39 to trade at $64.19 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.42% to 1.09, while EUR/GBP rose 0.97% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 103.28.
