Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy , IT and Industrials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.33%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Appen Ltd (ASX: APX ), which rose 8.97% or 0.07 points to trade at 0.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Polynovo Ltd (ASX: PNV ) added 8.13% or 0.09 points to end at 1.13 and Seek Ltd (ASX: SEK ) was up 6.24% or 1.23 points to 20.95 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Ramelius Resources Ltd (ASX: RMS ), which fell 14.97% or 0.44 points to trade at 2.50 at the close. St Barbara Ltd (ASX: SBM ) declined 11.29% or 0.04 points to end at 0.28 and Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN ) was down 10.94% or 0.97 points to 7.90.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 668 to 447 and 390 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 5.88% to 13.17.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.53% or 86.61 to $3,332.79 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.59% or 1.01 to hit $64.68 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 1.02 to trade at $68.46 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.66% to 0.64, while AUD/JPY rose 0.84% to 90.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 99.00.
